Combining OET Test Results
If you're an OET candidate aiming for medical board registration overseas, you're not alone. Many use their OET certificate to demonstrate English proficiency. Various medical boards have distinct OET requirements, and some allow combining oet test results from two different sittings. If you achieve the required scores in three out of four sub-tests but fall short in one, you can retake the test and combine the results.
For example, the UK's Nursing and Midwifery Council allows combining scores from two sittings within 12 months, provided no score is below C+ in reading, listening, and speaking, and C (250) in writing. However, the General Medical Council in the UK does not permit combining scores.
In Australia, both the Medical Board and Nursing and Midwifery Board allow combining results from two sittings within six months, with no score below C.
In Ireland, neither the Irish Medical Council nor the Nursing and Midwifery Board permit combining results. Scores must meet their specific requirements within one sitting.
Use our combining calculator to determine eligibility. Always verify with the respective registration bodies, as requirements may change. This guide is general; cross-check your results with the latest updates from the boards.
